Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (S.A.L.C.C.) was established under the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College Act 8 of 1985. The College functions under a unicameral governance structure with a Board of Governors appointed by the incumbent government of the day, at the helm. The Act stipulates that there be up to 7 Board members. The Board is responsible for managing, conducting and supervising the activities, buildings, premises and grounds of College and acts as the adjudicator in discipline cases involving students and/or staff of the institution.

Dr. P. Hermanides founded The Bushroad Clinic in the fall of 1987.
Due to a rapidly growing clinic population it was necessary to expand the clinic and in 1990 Dr. F. Bouman joint forces.
After a long and successful career Dr. Hermanides decided to retire in 2007, with Dr. A. Raghosing accompanied by Dr. Sanchit replacing him.

Acadia General Hospital serves a growing Acadia Parish population of approximately 62,000. Acadia General Hospital provides acute medical and surgical care, obstetric, gynecology, pediatric, orthopedic, otolaryngology, cardiac, nephrology, ophthalmology, oncology, emergency services, vein therapy, wound care and hyperbaric medicine. University Hospital & Clinics (UHC) is a full-service, acute care hospital that serves Acadiana as its primary graduate medical education center by training residents and fellows, cultivating physicians for the future.
