The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech), formerly the College of Arts, Science and Technology is located within the Greater Kingston Metropolitan Region in the parish of St. Andrew and occupies approximately 18.2 hectares. It lies to the east of the Hope Botanical Gardens within the Papine-Liguanea commercial centres. The campus is served by several bus routes and is within walking distance of the Mona Campus of the regional University of the West Indies and the University Hospital.The University was established in 1958, originally under the name the Jamaica Institute of Technology.

The Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica (CCCJ) is a statutory agency under the Ministry of Education, formed by an Act of Parliament, which was passed in December 2001, to supervise and coordinate the work of Community Colleges in Jamaica. The Council, which comprises members of the Colleges, representatives from other sectors of the tertiary and secondary education system, as well as members of business and industry, held its first meeting in July 2002, and established business Offices at 24, Trafalgar Road in August of the same year.

The Gingerland Secondary School recently participated in the inter High School championships held in St.Kitts.

A recent communiqué from the school has sought to express thanks to all of the individuals and businesses who helped to make the school’s participation in the prestigious event possible.

The communiqué reads:
“The Gingerland Secondary School would like to thank all who made it possible for their presence at the 2014 inter High School inter championships.


The Charlestown Secondary School (CSS) will be part of a team representing the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Nature’s Fantasy, the winning student JA Company of the local Trade Fair 2015, was awarded finalist in the upcoming Competition of the Year (COY) 2015.

COY will be held in Jamaica this year, and also for the first time in the Caribbean Region. Nature’s Fantasy joins over 16 student companies from the Caribbean and Latin Americas that will showcase their goods and/or services to vie for the Company of the Year (COY) Award.


Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): The Saddlers Secondary School has once again taken a proactive approach to enhancing its teacher’s skills in a one-day Professional Development Day on February 04.

The Students’ Teacher: Productive, Understanding and Technology Driven was the theme for their 5th annual workshop.

Chief Education Officer Clarice Cotton stated that teachers should take what they have learnt in the workshop and incorporate it in the classroom and ensure that the students are the centre of every decision and action that they take.
