The Pumphouse and the Salt Industry of Anguilla:

Anguilla's main source of salt has been the Road Salt Pond. With a total area of 130 acres the pond is capable of producing an average of 37,000-40,000 barrels (300 lbs each) yearly. In dry times West End Pond and Long Pond have produced salt but not in significant amounts.

The Road Salt Pond is normally below sea level so that sea water percolates through the sandbar on which Sandy Ground Village stands. This sea water would evaporate and form salt crystals.

Vinissimo has a fine selection of wines from France, the United States, Chile, and many other wine producing countries of the world. On its shelves, you will find wines from several of the top vintners including Montrachet, Yquem, Dom Perignon, Latour, Gelas Armagnacs, Haut Brion, Lafite Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild, and Chateau P�trus, which is considered to be the most prestigious wine in the world.

The mini plaza at the George Hill Landing welcomed another new business in late June. Entrepreneurs Gilford and Marcia Gumbs spearheaded Wines Etc with the expert assistance of Alan and Lisa Gumbs who own and manage Koal Keel Restaurant among other food and beverage establishments.

 It was a sad day when Veronique & Didier Van closed their original Le Bar, a beloved French bistro on Shoal Bay East.

Nearly a decade after its closing, and we still longed for their 12 oz. burger. Specially prepared with a secret recipe, it rivaled all others that had crossed our plates.

When word circulated that Le Bar would be opening again, hope was restored. That hope grew into cautious optimism as we saw the evidence. The construction, the French Tricolour and then finally the sign.
