Varadero is Cuba's tourist mecca and is the largest resorts complex in the Caribbean, national tourists started to coming here in 1872, but the international development didn't begin until 1930's when the US chemical millionaire Irenee Dupont Nemours built a large estate on the peninsula. The peninsula has 21 km of white sandy beaches, and is like heaven for sun worshipping people. The peninsula is only 1.2 km at its widest point. It slopes to the northeast, where its tip "Hicacos Pointis" the northernmost point of Cuba. Varadero beach is virtually unbroken 12 km long swath that widens and improves eastward then breaks up into smaller beaches.
