In a time before a tourism economy existed on Anguilla, salt mining was our main industry. The Old Salt Factory and Pumphouse at Sandy Ground are a reminder of a time gone by. The tour takes visitors through the Pumphouse and explains how the mining of the adjacent salt pond was carried out from both a mechanical and human viewpoint. Photos illustrate how salt was picked from the pond flats, carried and stored for exportation. Tours are given on Thursdays at 10 a.m. by appointment only.
