Anguilla (pronounced An-GWIL-a) is an enchanting island that appears out of the blue Caribbean waters like an eel surfacing, its coiled and graceful body skirted by coral white beaches. Christopher Columbus saw it this way and named the island ANGUILLA, the Italian word for eel. This English speaking island is the northernmost of the Leeward Islands in the eastern Caribbean with a population of nearly 8500 people.
Northeast trade winds temper this relatively flat almost treeless and dry coral island. Sixteen miles long and three miles wide, its 35 square miles offer some of the best beaches in the Caribbean where underwater visibility enhances snorkeling and scuba diving. The 32 beaches, some stretching for miles with hidden coves and grotto-like areas, give the impression of your own pool fed by the sea.
Some islands are alluring because of their beauty, their remoteness, or even their variety of entertainment. Visitors who know Anguilla think this island's appeal is the character of its people. Their strong religious and moral values are as apparent as their energy and resourcefulness. Their friendliness is perhaps the most sincere in the Caribbean. Anguillians have a long tradition of hard work and thrift.
The concept of Lambert Ventures came about due to a bonding friendship between myself and the Anguillian family of McEllis Brooks. Tourism for Anguilla was in its infancy, and some Anguillians began thinking about the future of their small island. Mac and Sara Brooks are two Anguillians who wanted to make more use of the land than what their families had made of it. The fulfillment of this dream is still in the process.
