Designed by Phillipe Starck, Light Bar is a gorgeous space in St. Martins Lane Hotel that glows with colour and fills a deceptively minimalist interior with vivid energy. One of London’s most revered clubs, the cocktails are as much of an attraction as the style and the crowd, and with a members / residents only policy (unless you’re on a guestlist) they keep the vibe suitably intimate.
The interior is smooth and grand, with high ceilings and large walls covered with over-sized black-and-white photo portraits by Jean Baptiste Mondino, some bearing cheeky grins as though the building itself is having a bit of a giggle at an in-joke. There’s no joking about at the front entrance, mind you, as the door-staff at Light Bar have serious decisions to make with half of London trying to get in on a Friday night.
Once inside the atmosphere is chic and fashionable, with more than the odd celeb mixing with well-to-do locals and upmarket visitors. Bottle service is available, so there is a bit of an exclusive vibe that some will love and others might not. You can grab a bite to eat here as well, and the gourmet bar menu stays open until late.
You might just have time to fit in a mouthful or two in between cocktails - some of the best in the city on an extravagant menu with a selection of over 80 world-class creations, all made with exotic flavours, quality spirits and well chosen ingredients. Thursdays through Saturdays are the go here, with resident DJ’s bringing the energy up another level and cementing Light Bar as one of the best clubs in London.
