The eco-marine tour of historic Bluefields Bay starts from Belmont Beach, where fishing has been a way of life for more than 1400 years. The two - hour tour with a fisherman guide takes you to the east, where you pass close to the entrance to some sea caves where cave swallows build their nests. The next stop will be at a partially exposed coral reef, which is home to a myriad of multicoloured fishes and sea creatures. A wide range of corals can be seen in the clear waters – these include sea fans, sea whips, stag’s horn and brain coral.

The Montego Bay Marine Park is a vast area of protected sea water surrounding the entire length of Montego Bay (from the Donald Sangster International Airport to the Great River). The park includes the waters of Doctor's Cave Beach, Aquasol Beach, Cornwall Beach and Dead End Beach as well as the private beaches of hotels in and around Montego Bay. Certain activities (such as fishing and water sports) are prohibited or restricted in various parts of the park in order to preserve the underwater environment for future generations.

The Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory (DBML) is a facility of the University of the West Indies dedicated to supporting research and the teaching of biology, chemistry, ecology, geology, hydrology and geography. The facility also seeks to apply the knowledge gleaned to the management of the natural resources in Jamaica's coastal zone.

Located about 1 hour from the Montego Bay airport, DBML is situated on the water at Discovery Bay and is an excellent location for educational field trips, scientific research, seminars and workshops.
