Caribbean STAY

Baie de l'Embouchure

Also known as Coconut Grove or Le Galion Beach. It's a short 5 minute walk via a coastal track over from the Club Orient end of Orient Beach. Or else you can drive in from the turn off that leads into Club Orient.

The first building you notice on entering the area are the remains of the Le Galion Hotel. This hotel was once one of the, or the most exclusive hotels on the french side of the island.  A plan to completely rebuild the hotel back in the 90's ran into local politics and the plan was abandoned. Unfortunately the plan was abandoned after the hotel was partly demolished.

There is a restaurant and watersports operation run by Pat Turner and his wife. Pat originally started as the operator of the watersports concession, Tropical Wave, back in the days of the Le Galion Hotel. The hotel may have long gone but Pat is still there running his restaurant and watersports.

Baie de l'Embouchure is one of the calmest beaches on the island and is a great place to learn to windsurf. Tropical Wave watersports has traditionally been the "home" of windsurfing on St Martin.

Beach chairs and umbrellas are available. When your tummy starts to rumble, Pat has a selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads, ice cold beers, mixed drinks, frozen drinks and coffee.

If you're visiting St Martin during the off season wander over before noon, you may be lucky enough to catch Pat when business is a little slow and convince him to sit down for a chat over a beer or coffee. Originally from the U.S. Pat has been on St Martin since 1977, so he's certainly got some stories to tell.
